Board of Advisors

RMYS started in June 2008 to address the need for connecting coaches and kids for playing basketball in Fort Collins by Shannon Lopez and Dorsi Smith.

Kirsten Batalden, Board Member

She has worked in business for over 15 years, primarily managing business operations. She holds a degree in business management and a masters in education allowing her to see how each program can improve the life of the child while understanding the impact each decision has on the organization as a whole. Kirsten has many years background in Human Resources and has served on other non-profit Boards. She brings a non-basketball perspective to the organization.

Phil Johnson, Advisor

  • From 2005-2008, he was the assistant women's basketball coach at University of Colorado in Colorado Springs.
  • Since 2004, Phil has developed programs, ran camps and coached for Great Starts Sports Camps.
  • From 2000-2002, Phil was the girls head coach at Doherty where they were 2nd in State as well as nationally ranked both years (a 46-4 record).)
  • In 2000-01, he was the 5A Coach of the Year.
  • Phil's overall basketball coaching record over 25 years is 271-54.
  • Involved in teaching and coaching basketball in Colorado since the 1970s.
  • Coached or played a role in the training of over 40 student athletes who received college scholarships, 20 of those student athletes went to Division 1 Colleges.
  • A passion for basketball and believes in providing more opportunities for kids to play basketball, especially at younger ages.
  • Keep your eyes open, you may see Phil coaching a Skill Session or two!

Shannon Lopez, Program Director & Board Member

  • Founder of Rocky Mountain Youth Sports
  • RMYS Vice President and on the Board of Directors
  • Owned home based business beginning at age 15
  • Managed local window tinting business for five years prior to purchasing her own business
  • Founder of Ultimate Window Tinting since 1998
  • Parent of basketball player with experience in two club programs and high school sports
  • Volunteer Chair for Business Women's Network of Fort Collins

Dorsi Smith, Executive Director & Board Member

  • Founder of NEA Company in 2004
  • Purdue Univiersity, BS 1984
  • Recreation soccer coach for 10 seasons for daughter & son
  • Parent of three children with experience in Junior programs, middle and high school sports

Rob Stumbaugh, Advisor

  • 2005 to present, First Community Bank Regional President for Colorado (20 branches in Colorado)
  • For the past several years, listed in Northern Colorado Business Report (NCBR) list of "Who's Who" in Banking/Finance.
  • Graduated Colorado College in 1981 Bachelor degree in Biology - earned 8 letters (4 in football and 4 in baseball) for Division III Tigers
  • Campaign Chairperson for Loveland, Berthoud, and Estes Park United Way (UWLBEP) raising approx. $1.2 million
  • Odyssey of the Mind coach, advisor to Thompson Soccer Association, volunteer for Loveland Swim Club, MVHS Band Booster, etc.
  • Current Member of Colorado Lightning (Professional Indoor Soccer club) Advisory Board

Currently a Broker/Partner with Realtec Commercial Real Estate Services; He is married with a son.
